"SOLD"
Age: Mid Edo period.
Remarks: A magnificent iron Jingasa (Samurai War Helmet), dating from the mid Edo Period. Rarely found in this splendid condition. The exterior is covered with iron embossed in a three dimensional Dragon motif. The Dragon is surrounded in an undulating wave pattern. The interior is covered with gold lacquer that signifies that this Jingasa was made for a high ranking Samurai. The gold lacquer interior was seen by the lower ranking samurai as the wearer was riding upon a horse. The detail in this piece is exceptional. This Jingasa also comes with its original armor box that was custom made. The box is made of kiriwood and is very old. Finally it is wrapped in an Edo period green cloth with a Paulownia family crest on it. This is a rare and highly collectible Jingasa in superb condition.
