Age: Late Muromachi Period (1487-1573)

 

Remarks: Finished with fukurin and gold lacquer this piece was made during the Late Muromachi period and re-mounted during the mid Edo period. A beautiful example and in wonderful condition.

The hachi is composed of 26 plates in the suji bachi style. Each suji ridge has been capped with gilded fukurin trim and inset along the lower edge of the hachi. Gilded pierced inome igaki fixtures have been placed between each plate. Everything has been fitted perfectly to this piece. The visor has deeply embossed wrinkles and eyebrows. The tehen is multi-staged and ornately engraved. The shikoro is laced with blue silk cords and covered with gold lacquer.
