Age: Mid Edo period.

Remarks: This Kura is decorated in beautiful gold hiramaki-e and takamaki-e featuring Dragons undulating through clouds. The background features gorgeous nashiji lacquer. The leather "seat" is also embossed. The underside of the Kura bears the date of the eighth month of the seventh year of the Enpo era (July 1679). There is also a cursive "kao" makers mark. The gold lacquer dragon pattern is repeated on the matching stirrups. The family crest rendered in solid silver, belonged to the Hori Daimyo Clan. A noble family, descended from the Fujiwara and resided in Mino (now part of Gifu prefecture). Hori Hidemasa was a famous warrior and notable confidante of Oda Nobunaga. This is a very rare matching set that certainly would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
