The saya is gold nashiji. The tsuka ito is also original and in excellent condition. Both the saya jiri and the kabuto gane are stunningly beautiful. The Kodogu and Tsuba are handcrafted Shakudo which is an alloy of copper and gold. The Nanako (fine dots) are applied by hand and precised created one at a time to create the background for which the crests are applied. The whole process can take up to a year to finish.

Itomaki No Tachi originated in the Nambokucho Period (1334-1392). The Itomaki was developed to prevent abrasion damage to the Saya. The upper portion is wrapped in fine silk lacing and the lower 2/3 was occasionally protected by a fur covering. History : Ranking only second to the chrysanthemum, the paulownia was exclusively associated with the Imperial Household from the time of emperor Godaigo. Later, Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi conferred it on their generals for brave and faithful service. The paulownia graced the roofs of the great castles of Himeji, Osaka, Nagoya and Fushimi which Hideyoshi built. After his death, the popularity of the crest declined but its use was perpetuated be the Daimyo and Hatamoto of the Toyotomi lines.
