Sasaki Daimyo "Juuyo Grade" Armor

Remarks: This original very rare gusoku is a completely matched set of armor with leather sections and fabric matching throughout. There are stunning family crests on this suit. The suit belonged to a Sasaki Daimyo (Samurai Lord).

This superb authentic example of a Edo Period suit has qualified for the prestigious level of Juuyo Bunka Shiryou by the Nihon Katchu Bugu Kenkyu Hozan Kai Armour Society here in Japan. This is the highest level of certification a Samurai Armor can obtain before it becomes designated a National Treasure item.

Historical: The Rokkaku clan were a Japanese samurai clan which wielded considerable power in the Muromachi period under the Ashikaga Shogunate. Founded by Sasaki Yasutsuna in the 13th century, the name Rokkaku was taken from their residence within Kyoto; many members of this family continued to be called Sasaki, however. Over the course of the Muromachi period, members of the clan held high posts of various provinces. During the Onin war (1467-77), which marked the beginning of the Sengoku period.
