Age: Edo period.
Remarks: Uniquely styled and rare this suit features characteristics we have never seen before. All matched and original. The suit was formerly displayed at the Arashiyama Museum in Japan.
Historical:
The suit belonged to a Karo (jodai) Ando from the Tokugawa family in Kishu (Present day Wakayama). He was the number one highest ranking Samurai to the Kishu Tokugawa at the time. The Tokugawa family had three main branches: Mito (Ibaraki), Owari (Aichi) and Kishu (Wakayama). Wakayama City flourished as the centre of the Kishu Tokugawa domain which, at its height, produced 555,000 goku of rice. Wakayama castle was the place of residence for the family. The Kabuto bears an inscription of "Hachiman Dai Bozatsu" (the god of war).
