"SOLD"
Age: Early Edo Period
Remarks: The hachi is in the Akoda style. The mabizashi is superbly crafted with Uchidashi (raised relief metalwork) in the shape of an Oni (demon). The eyes are silver with brass for the pupils. The Menpo is a Nagasone school piece with superbly worked inome on the lowest lame of the yodare kake. Both the shikoro and the yodarekake are lined with gold lacquer on the underside. This is a very heavy piece. The oharaidate features a unique spring mechanism for securing a maedate and the maebashi features beautiful embossing in a style that indicates it is the work of the Nagasone school. This school specialised in the manufacture of Kabuto but also made swords. It was founded by Nagasone Okisato in the early 17th century at Fukui in Echizen. The Kabutos of this school were always of the finest quality and are very rare. There are only five known armorers of this school. Only a handful of Kabuto exist from this school.
