Remarks: A beautiful signed Nagasone Kawari Kabuto. The specific smith that this piece was crafted by is unknown because time has worn away a portion of the signature. This Kabuto certainly exhibits characteristics that can be attributed to the Nagasone school of armor. There is detailed silver inlay at the very top of the peak of the hachi. At the base of the hachi is a decorative design called "inome" or boar's eye.
Nagasone Okisato founded this group of armor makers in the town of Fukui. In 1647 he moved his group to Edo where he continued to make armor with them for a time before devoting all of his interests to sword making. The group ceased to makearmor upon the death of Okisato around 1678.
