Tetsu Sabiji 62 Ken Hoshi Kabuto. Early Edo period.

Signed by Neo Masanobu. Handcrafted fukurin trim and egawa highlight this stunning Hoshi Kabuto. Bear fur trims the bottom of the shikoro. The family crest on the fukegaeshi is a “kikyo” or chinese bellflower made famous by Akechi Mitsuhide. This variation belonged to a Daimyo named Kakegawa in Suruga.

Neo Masanobu is considered the founder of the famous Neo school of armor. He revolutionized the construction of Kabuto by creating the famous 120 plate Suji Kabuto. Masanobu worked in Nara, Kyoto and Owari around 1700. Very few examples of his work exist and this is certainly a beautiful example.
