Samurai Fur Helmet (Samurai Hatsunari Kabuto)
Hatsunari Kabuto. Early Edo period (Circa 1600)
An extraordinary matched Kabuto and Menpo set made of lacquered iron. The hachi is partially covered with animal hair. This was not only to distinguish the Kabuto from others but also served a practical purpose to protect the hachi from adverse weather. Unique eyebrows are made of the same animal hair along with the moustache on the Menpo.
