Samurai Helmet - Signed Myochin Muneyoshi
Tetsu Kuro Urushi Nuri Suji Kabuto. Edo period
The celebrated Myochin family has been producing some of the finest quality armors since the 11th century. When the early Myochin ancestors presented their armor to the Emperor Konoe (1141-54), the Emperor was so impressed with their work that he called them “Myochin” and granted it to them as their family name. It means “brilliantly executed extraordinarily rare craftsmanship.” As his ancestors had done, This piece is signed by Myochin Muneyoshi.
