AVAILABLE - A Unique Russet Iron Tetsu Sabiji Kabuto
A russet iron [tetsu sabiji] hon saiga kabuto dating to the Edo Period and made in the province of Kii (present day Wakayama Prefecture). The surface embellished with numerous intricate sukashi kirigane [pierced iron decorative fixtures] and zaboshi [rivets with decorative washers]. The helmet is adorned with an itayagi [shellfish] maedate [crest] of lacquered hide. The five-lame hineno-jikoro [close-fitting neck-guard] of kiritsuke-kozane [imitation lamellae] is finished in yellow kebiki-odoshi [close-spaced lacing].
The russet iron mento [face mask] is in the ressei-men [aggressive expression] style. With brass teeth and prominent adoyari-gane [flanges on cheeks to protect helmet cords] denote this as being a high quality mask. Of particular interest are the sukashi [pierced] ears with expertly applied kirigane to match those on the kabuto. A four stage tare [throat guard] of style matching the kabuto. The interior in cinnabar red lacquer.
